The Search for the Old Guard

This is a storyline and guidebook for a custom-made adventure in the table-top RPG Dungeon World.

The angered god of corruption, Yakrin, is threatening the great, yet newly founded Spirit Empire. There is one hope that could turn the tide against Yakrin, and save the Empire and its people: The Old Guard. However, it is uncertain whether or not they exist.

You and your fellow party members have been tasked with finding the Old Guard if they exist, and to convince them to join you in the struggle against Yakrin.

Will you take up the quest, and search for the Old Guard?

This was made for a project in my Story Development for Interactive Media class at Columbia College Chicago. This story is largely based on a universe of my own that I have been creating for quite some time. Of course, it has been edited to fit within the parameters of a tabletop RPG, but many of the characters are the same, and the overall theme and story are essentially a simplified version of the original. The story and the experiences that arise from this adventure are meant to feel rather epic, but not easily earned. The players will experience a treacherous journey as they attempt to not only save the Empire but save the universe as well, for Yakrin has far deeper intentions than he lets on. While the universe's destiny is not set in stone, the chosen Champions of the Empire must carry its burden.
